Cleaning up my hard
disc I came across our correspondence of February 2010, and
thought you might be interested in my experience with the Bosch
23 TC. So far it's all good news! It has had a lot of work and
there's quite a bit more to come in the next few weeks. As you
say, it is damned awkward to hump about the garden, but I have
some sack trucks and use them.
After every use I
give the turbine a good squirt of spray grease while it is
running, and clear out the jammed fragments between the blades.
The gearing makes turning the cutter hard work - much easier
with the machine on its side, or even inverted.
The only snag is
loads and loads of shreddings, but it's a big garden.
Trust all goes well
with you. Best regards
Don

After our
correspondence of a month or so ago - I did go ahead and
purchase the Bosch 25TC Shredder - and I have to admit, it is
quite a machine.
Handles the
woodier stuff well - but is not as good with soft / greenery
type cuttings.
The FISKARS
billhook has been better than I had expected too.
Hope all well
with you,

Hi again
Fred,
Just want you
to know how smitten I am by the shredder!! (AXT23TC)
It arrived
bright and early yesterday and I followed your instructions and
my husband and I whizzed through the mountain of stuff outside
the back door. We are both ecstatic! Highly impressed with the
design.
I anticipate
many happy years of shredding ahead. Thank you so much for your
kind help and advice. Really grateful!
Happy Easter
to you and yours.

Fred,
Thanks again
for the advice. I went for the 25TC through garden4less and it’s
been fantastic, exceeding all my expectations. It’s got through
mountains of material without any problems at all, and has
pretty much paid for itself already. It’s actually performing
better than the big petrol one I hired last year!
Kind regards,
Andy

Fred,
Re the Lidl shredder I recently
bought , Feel free to mention my experience on your page as you
see fit.
I
purchased the garden shredder from Lidl in Aberdeen and have 'of course'
found that it is not up to the task. It was fine with dry stuff
including 40mm pieces but got very quickly choked when inserting freshly
cut twigs etc, i.e. anything with any kind of sap left in it.
The AXT2200 Rapid is perfect for
my usage and the noise/dust are of no consequence as I guess none of us
use it for more than a few hours per year and surely even the most
difficult of neighbours can't complain too much about that. I will not
be putting anything with sand/gravel/wet
leaves etc into it as these will be bagged
separately as we normally do.
I have known about your site
for a number of years and have checked it on many occasions. Quite
simply, "it does exactly what says on the tin" and I can't say more than
that and that it is excellent.
I will attempt to return the Lidl
one as soon as possible and order the AXT2200 rapid through your
site when I have the money back.
Many thanks for your help in
this matter and enjoy what's left of the summer
Cheers Norman

Hi Fred
What a hero. Having trawled the internet for goodness knows how
long, in a vain search for this elusive part, you come up trumps
straightaway. I will certainly ‘shout your good name’ at every
opportunity and will use your site to purchase whenever I can.
Once again, many, many thanks, Ray

Fred your website was a God sent! I ordered a AXT2200 HP shredder from
Wyevale on the web for £259.99 (cog type) they tried to deliver the AXT
rapid 2200 (£138.99)....after 3 days of arguments between the delivery
people and Wyevale and me I found your site and told them BOSCH had
stopped making the one I ordered!
They rang back to say you're right! apologised, and I have cancelled the
order and I have now ironically gone for the AXT rapid 2200 on your
advice.
It goes to show many suppliers don't know what they are talking
about...you have saved me a lot of hassle and I should be shredding by
2pm tomorrow after going for express delivery with Amazon.
best wishes, Pete

Fred,
I used a friends Bosch AXT1600HP with
the helical blade and spent most of the time feeding it and
sorting out jams - good idea but lousy execution. I found your
site, followed your excellent advice and bought the ATX2200HP
crusher - wow what a difference!! It eats everything is quiet and
and my wife loves it - worth every penny spent. Your site was
invaluable and your advice first rate, many many thanks for your
enthusiasm and public spirit in creating the site.

John
Hi Fred
I purchased the Bosch 2200 Shredder which you recommended and after
giving it a weeks work I can only say that I am very impressed with its
performance. Once again many thanks for your advice and any person
acquiring one of these machines I'm sure will be more than satisfied

I just wondered how you are
keeping and thought you would like to know that I am still chuffed to
bits with the Bosch shredder . I have managed
to just about clear the garden ready for winter without having to get
anyone to take stuff away for me. I have bought a compost bin, and
frankly, because the shredder does such a good job, I am finding that
green stuff is breaking down very quickly and I am managing to cope with
things nicely. The shredder has exceeded my expectations and is an
absolute God-send.
Very many thanks
Best wishes Julia

Dear Fred,
I came across your website recently (I think via a mention in someone's review
on Amazon) and having read your recommendations bought a Bosch AXT2000 HP
shredder as we've just bought a house with a garden that hasn't had any
maintenance for three years.
Just a note to say I'm very pleased with it - much quieter than I thought, also
much slower but perfectly OK for the volume of stuff we've got to get through.
Shreds/chops beautifully.
Thanks for bothering to runs what seems a very altruistic website and I did of
course buy from Amazon via your link.
Best Wishes, Simon

Fred, Just to let you know that
my Bosch shredder arrived today. It is fantastic - it ate up all my
zebra grass in about 20 minutes - chomping its way effortlessly. You
were right about the bag - its a real necessity! Thanks so much for your
advice. I wish I had bought the Bosch ages ago!! I'm looking forward to
taking my old ********** to the tip!
Thanks again for your help, Penny

Hi Fred
Just to let you know I used my new Bosch AXT2200
quite a bit over the weekend and am very pleased with it. The only
drawback - which is obvious really - is that with evergreen shreddings, Eleagnus
in this case, the
output isn't really suitable for mulch right away.
This is because it contains a lot of more or less intact leaves which
would blow around the garden. Best to let it rot for a while first I
think.
Thanks again for the very helpful advice. Regards Hugh

I wrote a few weeks ago,
just to let you know I did buy the Bosch AXT Rapid shredder 2200.
Excellent tool I found that never mind the max size spec if you can get
a bit of newly pruned hedge into it seconds later its chopped and gone.
The output is quite fine 'shredding' for me much better than the chunks
you describe from the silent type.

Hi Fred
Just a note to say thanks for your very informative site. I have just
purchased a Bosch AXT 2000 Shredder and am very pleased with it. I
borrowed an impact shredder from a friend a while ago and spent more time
unclogging it than actually shredding anything. I think the Bosch is
perfect for my medium size garden and it is a pleasure to use.
I will keep an eye on your website for more tips.
Thank you and kind regards. Jean

Hi Fred, thanks for all your
help. Amazon were great. Received the AXT2000HP from them
yesterday. Only took a few minutes to assemble and get it working.
So far I am really impressed. Its easy to use and not as noisy as I
was expecting. Brilliant. Thanks for everything.

Hi Fred,
I was interested to read your
shredder review. I have owned a Bosch AXT2000 cog-type crushing
shredder for around eight years now, and I'm very impressed with it.
It has done a lot of shredding and
still works as well as it did when new. Obvious good points are that
it self-feeds and is pretty quiet. Less obviously, it is fairly tall,
so there's room for a very large bucket under the chute, which is
handy when you shred as much as I do.
It is not too good at dealing with
soft growth - as it can get choked up with mush - but to be fair,
that's not what it is designed for.
The build quality is amazing; it
really is made to last, and that goes a long way to justify its fairly
steep initial price. Although spare parts must be rather expensive,
the AXT2000 has never required any repairs at all. Over eight or ten
years the TCO (total cost of operation) is very reasonable.

I just wanted you to know that we are so pleased with
the shredder that you suggested. (AXT2200HP) We have spent the weekend
shredding and mulching and are so relieved not to have to keep loading
up the car with volumes of waste to take to the tip. Your site is
fantastic and I will definitely recommend to anyone else in my
situation.

Hello Fred
Thank you again for your advice on the Bosch
"silent" shredder 2000. Basically, it is a good shredder. It is not
really silent but it is reasonably and tolerably quiet. The
neighbours haven't complained although I was shredding rhododendron
branches for two 2-hour stretches last Sunday - unavoidably near their
windows!
One of its selling points for me is that it pulls
the branches in once the end engages which saves me a lot of energy.
I wish that it would take larger branches as I had to cut off some of
the large ends of the branches and knots which would go in the slot
but could not be cut [I had to reverse them out] but I imagine that
would require a much larger and more expensive machine. As you may
know, rhododendron branches, if they are not regularly cut which mine
were not, become quite curved and twisted when they seek the light and
I was glad to find that the machine can handle twisted branches - they
just turn back and forth in the slot as they are pulled down.
One warning for other buyers is to watch the
collection bag to make sure that there is still space for the cut up
branches to exit the machine. I didn't watch and at one point the
machine stopped and when I investigated I found that the cut up
materials had packed up and jammed inside the machine because they
couldn't exit. Easily solved, however, I just tilted the machine up
and pulled out the jammed materials and subsequently paid attention.
The machine does work very fast and the collection bag fills up
quickly.
I was a bit disappointed at the size of the cut-up
pieces which I had expected to be smaller. I had intended to use the
cut branches as a mulch but the rather large chucks of wood don't look
like a very good weed-preventing mulch. Could you tell me whether or
not I have to compost the wood for a year or so before I can use it
for an effective mulch?
(Answer to Sylvia's question,
regarding how long to store before using as mulch)
I use my shreddings as mulch immediately
unless it contains wood
from acidic plants such as conifers to prevent the leaching of acidic residue.) |
